Welcome to Berner's Correspondence ! Home of yuko, max, and connie.
The Bernese Mountain Dogs in Switzerland have worked in farms doing such
important tasks as keeping herds together, pulling carts filled with dairy
products, and protecting livestocks as well as their home and family.
Now Berners are also known as lovable and certainly huggable companion dogs.
I share my home with two wonderful Berners, Max and Connie and have great
stories to tell you all about us !!
No.1 Berner's Correspondence
How do you do, dog lovers?
My name is Yuko.
I am a housewife and live in Tokyo, Japan
with two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Max and Connie.Since this was my very first time
ever to live with big dogs like Berner,
I had little knowledge about housebreaking,
obedience training, or how to travel with them.
But thanks to all my friends,
I could manage to jump each herdle with their help!
Well, of course I had to study a little on my own, too.Bernese Mountain Dogs are mild - tempered ,
loving, and very affectionate toward people and other pets.
Their friendly nature makes perfect family dogs!
Eventhough I am still struggling,
everyday is full of joy and new surprises for me, Max and Connie.
I would like to share this wonderful experience with you
as much as possible through Berner's Correspondence !
yuko.....( O.K., you guys, let's say " CHEESE! " )
connie.....( " BONE! " oops! " CHEESE! " )
max.....( " BONE! " oops! " CHEESE! " )
No.31 SPIRAL STAIRS
When I think back, it has been a really hot summer.
My dogs would stay inside a well air-conditioned room
while the sun was high and strong.
So we went on a trip to a summer resort in Izu,
where we could enjoy nice cool wind blowing from the ocean
even on the hottest day!
But there was only one problem.
Connie just wouldn't go down the spiral stairs!
yuko.....( Let's go Connie, this is the only way to the beach! ) connie.....( No way! I'm scared... )
yuko.....( You can do it, Connie! ) connie.....( No! you are pulling my neck... )
connie.....( I won't forget this. )
max.....( Connie, This is the sea. ) connie.....( I am not happy at all... )
No.33 Puppies' Conversation
Connie, Sisiko, Jugemu, and Kumi are from the same litter bred between Max and Clara.
Connie lives with her dad, Max while the other three live with their mom, Clara.
All four brothers and sisters get along pretty well and have a chance to see each other
at a nearby park every now and then.
They seem to have endless energy and incredible amount of stamina to devote for palying,
wrestling, and chasing one another!
After they exhaust themselves out, they would rest panting heavily
- but if you listen closely, you can hear them talking behind us - their royal owners!
connie....." Oh,by the way, has your owner been nice to you lately? giving you much attention? "
kumi....." Nope! at least not like when I was an adorable puppy. "
sisiko....." Well, I think it's got to do with my long mussle. Once you lose your puppy face, it's all over! "
jugemu....." Hey, you guys! Take it easy! We've given them lots of troubles, too in the past.
Maybe they deserve to have some fun sometimes "
yuko.....That's right! You can't sing Karaoke with us anyway, though.
No.35 Vanilla - the super Frisbee dog
My friend's Berner, Vanilla is a very talented Frisbee dog.
She has won so many titles in numerous games, and all my
Berner friends have much respect for her.
Then I thought, why not Connie?
She is a healthy active Berner just like Vanilla!
It's not too late for us yet.
So we started our Frisbee training, dreaming maybe one day
we will be able to stand on the same field with Vanilla.
yuko....." Watch out Vanilla! Here we come!! "
yuko....." We've got to try our best, Connie. " connie....." I'm ready! "
yuko....." Here's my first throw. Go for it Connie! " connie....." Leave it to me! "
yuko....." Oops! I guess it was a little too high... " connie....." Oh, no..... "
connie....." I believe Yuko needs somebody show her how to throw straight first. "
No.42Too Close for Comfort?
They say it has been a warm winter so far, but
the temperature seems to go lower and lower every
time I take a walk with Max and Connie.
Is it the reason why they cram themselves in
one cage? I think the cage is just too small for
two of you to feel comfort in - or is it not?
connie:" Max's been sleeping in my cage very often these days. " max:" I like it here."
connie:" and I can't move my legs... " max:" What? "
connie:" and I can't even relax... " max:" Did you say something? "
connie:" No matter what I do, I can't get away from him " max:" What's wrong? "
connie:" He is always here! " max:" So what's the problem? "
connie:" I'm depressed. I need more space and definitely more privacy!! "
